Review: Marvel Ultimate Alliance

It’s been a long time since a linked to a game review I wrote, for a couple of reasons, really: people didn’t seem too terribly interested and it felt kind of silly.

I’ve been informed that the ol’ site here could use an infusion of silly after all the morbid and heavy posts lately, so here’s a link to my latest review, Marvel Ultimate Alliance for the Xbox.

The short version is that I really liked the game a lot. It lets you team up any four Marvel superheroes from a little over 20 choices. My team of choice was Wolverine, Spider-Man, Ghost Rider, and Spider Woman. A bit heavy on the Spider-people, I know, but Spider-Man had to be in there, and Spider Woman had some neat healing effects and long-range attacks.

I’ve been working for Digital Entertainment News for 2.5 years now and have written 45 game reviews, most of them for games I didn’t enjoy playing. Overall, though, I have enjoyed the experience and I don’t thank my boss often enough for the opportunity. Here’s a public shout-out (am I allowed to give shout-outs? I guess we’ll see) to my boss: Thanks for the cool opportunity and all your patience, monk!

The Outfit Review

My latest videogame review can be read here, if you’re inclined to read that sort of thing.

I was tempted to put all sorts of clothes jokes in it, but ended up with just the “Tailor-made or off-the-rack” one as the teaser.

My favorite lines in this review are “Blowing up stuff and killing Nazis is its own reward, after all” and “It’s the Circle of Life, The Outfit-style.”

I really do plan to blog again some day. Like, actual blogs. Really. I will finish my School Memories series before the year is out, and I might eventually tell you about my new watch and the email I got from a semi-famous person.

So, hang in there. We’ll get back to what passes for normal around here eventually.

Project Gotham Racing 3 Review

Latest review here.

A few things to note about this review:

  1. It’s my first Xbox 360 game review. After all of the store credit I built up turning in past reviewed games, I didn’t end paying very much for my 360. That’s a good thing, because they’re crazy expensive.
  2. The game is like six months old. I rented it because I wanted to try it and noticed we didn’t have a review, so there that is.
  3. This is my first review to use a palindrome in the review.
  4. This review also reveals an event from my teenagerhood that has been hidden lo these many years.
