Favorite Movie Quote #1

MELVIN: Okay, I got a real great compliment for you and it’s true.
CAROL: I am so afraid you’re about to say something awful…
MELVIN: Don’t be pessimistic. It’s not your style. Okay… Here it goes… Clearly a mistake.
I have this — what? Ailment… And my doctor — a shrink… who I used to see all the time… he says 50 or 60 percent of the time a pill can really help. I hate pills. Very dangerous things, pills. “Hate,” I am using the word “hate” about pills. My compliment is that when you came to my house that time and told me how you’d never — well, you were there, you know… The next morning I started taking these pills.
CAROL: (a little confused) I don’t quite get how that’s a compliment for me.
MELVIN: You make me want to be a better man.
Welcome to a new feature that I’m surprised took me this long to get to. I thought I’d start off the new “Favorite Movie Quotes” with one of my all-time favorite quotes from a movie ever. I’ve bolded and italicized it there, but wanted to give it some context as well. It’s from the movie As Good As It Gets, and even though that line got shown a million times in trailers and clip shows and whatnot, I still just absolutely love what it’s about. “I saw in you somebody I wanted – needed! – to be with so much that I knew I needed to improve just to have the opportunity to even have the possibility of being with you.”
I know I’m a hopeless romantic at heart, but come on – how does that not melt pretty much anyone?
