I think I hate this show now. The limey version realized the whole relationship thing can't sustain a (good) comedy and went elsewhere (the boss).

Actually, the relationship in the british version was designed to be exactly as it was. A subtle, building storyline. With, ya know, tears and whatnot.
It's been a while since I watched it, but I seem to recall the majority of it disappearing before the end of the first series.
