If Only I Ate Cats…

First of all, thanks to everyone who responded to the roll call – there were a lot of familiar names but there were also some new names and some surprises. It was great to hear from you all, so thanks!

Second, I’m sick. I started getting a sore throat yesterday and it got progressively worse as the night wore on, then the stuffy/runny nose kicked it, and the overall weakness and soreness and… well, I pretty much haven’t moved from the couch today. I played a little World of Warcraft and watched a lot of TV (finally finished ALF Season Four, which ended up not really being that good and actually kinda soured me on the first three seasons which I liked a lot).

But now I’m hungry. I had a bowl of cereal this morning and the only thing left in that box is the crumbs. Problem is, I have NO other food in the house. Literally. My fridge has half a gallon of milk and some condiments… and that’s it. I wish I could say it’s because I’m at the end of my grocery schedule and being sick caught me off-guard, but I can’t. This is pretty much Standard Operating Procedure around here. The only cooking I do is frozen pizzas and the occasional microwaveable meal, so I don’t tend to keep food here.

So now, even though I want to stay right here on the couch, I have to go get some food. I am not looking forward to this at all – last I remembered, it was cold outside. This should teach me to keep food on hand, but it probably won’t.

That's why I haven't bought any ALF sets past season 2. It got kinda…lame there. Especially the Christmas episode.

Bachelors. Food is vital for the living. And lots of things taste way better than frozen pizza, without requiring much more effort.

I worry about you. I think some day you'll be found gnawing on your own limbs becauseyou ran out of count chocula, which, by the way, isn't actually food. Food has nutrients.

  4. Meags says:

You don't even keep Kraft Mac and Cheese?

  5. MadMup says:

bd – Even Season Three had it's good points. Season Four has JM J. Bullock and preachy environmentalist stuff.

TheBon – I bought some cans of soup last night, is that what you had in mind? :)

HP – I very rarely eat Count Chocula. In fact, I tend more towards granolas and that sort of thing these days.

Meags – Even if I did, I ain't cooking when I'm sick. Just isn't going to happen.

If I still lived nearby, I'd come over and make mac and cheese for you. Because I know it only tastes right when someone else makes it. :)

Oh man, now I remember Season Four. I'm still on three, and now I'm not really looking forward to season four.

  9. bd says:

I remember liking JM J Bullock when he started, but then he just wouldn't go away.

Have you considered that the sickness and the lack of good food might be connected? Maybe you need to buy some fresh fruit and veggies. "An apple a day…"

Maybe you've heard by now that we ran into Josh Waltz at Clifton Baptist Church here in L-ville last week. I didn't know him at MBBC (before my time: 98-02) but Gretchen did. And if you have a madmup in common…well, you're sure to become fast friends! (Unrelated: Dude, do you remember me playing Sega Dreamcast with you at your parents' house once? It was when Gret was living there & student teaching. Do you still have that thing?)

Sorry we didn't hook up for supper before we moved. We were getting invitations out of nowhere the last two weeks we were there, which I didn't expect. It got pretty crazy. Come pay us a visit some time. You can show me how to get around the Websense filter that's blocking my access to MySpace here! (Seriously.)

    Dear Josh,
I have known Mark over 2 years now and he still won't eat fruit.
I am considering a stealth ninja attack.

Anything with purple in it is good for you. Purple's a fruit.

this string of comments is hurting my head…no wonder you're sick

  15. Josh says:

    m. kate,
You're the ONE person who could solve Mark's problem! Could you design a dietary regimen for him to adhere to? Also, maybe a budget for groceries.

  16. M. Kate says:

Josh – In the words of the man himself that task could be "dubbed Herculean." Maybe we should just let him stick to snake songs and and chips ahoy. You know…old dog…new tricks.

  17. MadMup says:

    These comments…!

Josh, I don't specifically remember playing Dreamcast with you, but I'm not surprised. The Dreamcast was AWESOME. We'll definitely get together when I can manage to get that way. Josh W. told me he'd run into you guys.

As for the rest of you, I have daily vitamins and try not to eat horrible things, but I rarely succeed.
