No Surprise

So it’s the eve of my father’s 60th birthday, and what was he doing at 8:00 at night when it was dark and 31° out?

He was climbing up the antenna pole and getting on the roof to hook up the extra lead he needed for the gift we kids got him.

It’s what he does.

What was I doing? Holding a flashlight. It’s what I do.

You made a 60 year old man climb on a roof? Bad form!

    What did you get him?

No, see, there's no telling him to not do these things! We tried!

We got him a DVR for his satellite system. It's TiVo-like, but not really TiVO, since they're disbanding their agreement with TiVo later this year.

When Mark comes to town, his family climbs up on the roof to get away. He chases them, armed with a flashlight. As amusing as it sounds, there's nothing quite like being there in person to watch it.
